The Scream Room was a small, sound-cladded room, created as part of mental health week. It existed for the course of the week as a heterotopic space where people were invited to enter and use their voice to make any sound they wanted, as loud as they wanted - without fear of embarrassment or causing alarm. These sounds were recorded throughout the week and played inside the room when the work was exhibited.
We believe that this type of space would be useful as a cathartic tool within workplaces and homes, particularly if our society continues to force freedom of expression further out of public spaces.
